Report on the National Dissemination Workshop

The National Dissemination Workshop of the Tuning India Project was organized by the Faculty of Law, Jagran Lakecity University under the subject area group of Law. The workshop aimed at spreading awareness about the Tuning India Project, Tuning Methodology, process, challenges and achievements in the SAG-Law. The workshop was attended by Project Authorities from the University of Deusto, SAG-Law University Partners delegates, and participants from various law universities/ institutions of India and faculty members of the Faculty of Law, Jagran Lakecity University.

The event began with Mr. Abhishek Kumar Jain, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law, Jagran Lakecity University delivering the Welcome Address. Prof. Ivan Dykarev, Project Manager gave his opening remarks to set the tone for the workshop. He shed light on the Tuning Methodology of developing curriculum to match with globally accepted standards. Prof. Naiara Arriola, Faculty of Law, University of Deusto delivered a presentation on “Competence-Based Learning in Legal Education: University of Deusto Approach and Experience”. She illustratively explained the facets of competency based content for the curriculum of a law degree programme and explained the process of competency mapping and designing a degree programme. In her interactive session she highlighted the approach used by University of Deusto to structure the workload of the students for competency development.

Dr. David Rojo, Faculty of Law, University of Deusto was the next presenter on topic “The EU Institutional Response to the «Refugee Crisis”. He thoroughly explained the topic as a subject matter expert and highlighted the timeline of the recent events to lay emphasis on its ramifications in the global scenario. Dr. P. Puneeth, Associate Professor, Centre for the Study of Law and Governance, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and Coordinator – SAG Law was the last presenter of the day, focusing on “Tuning India – SAG Law: Processes, Challenges and Achievements”. Dr. Puneeth shed light on the work done by the university partners in the stage wise achievements of project’s objectives. He lucidly explained the identification and categorization of competencies that are to be developed in a Law student. He also informed about the current progress in the project made by the University partners in the guidance of the European Experts.

Overall, the session brought a significant participation from the law academics community of India and delegates from across the country understood the development initiatives undertaken in the Tuning India Project. The workshop ended with Prof. Ivan Dyukarev giving his final remarks and encouraging the participants to learn about the Tuning Projects and its initiatives. Mr. Abhishek Kumar Jain delivered the Vote of Thanks and acknowledged the contribution of the resource persons in making the Workshop a success.
